I come fully equipped with soft lighting, a roll-up floor (to keep your home safe and tidy!), and any props we’ll be using to create the perfect atmosphere for your child’s big day.

We’ll start with a few warm-up portraits to help your child feel comfortable and settle into the session. These photos are a perfect way to capture them in their birthday outfit whether it’s a cute romper, dress, or personalised onesie — before the real fun begins.

Then it’s time for the main event: the cake smash! This is when your little one can explore, play, and dive into their cake with pure joy. The session typically lasts around 15 minutes long enough for playful, messy moments, without tiring your child.

Parents are encouraged to join in the fun! Helping your little one interact with the cake keeps them engaged and creates candid, heartwarming family moments full of love and connection.

Tips for a Perfect Cake Smash Session

When it comes to the cake smash itself, the messier, the better! I love capturing all the sweet chaos, cake in hands, splattered on the floor, and even mushed between tiny toes. The more playful and messy, the more fun the photos will be! A spoon can be a great addition to the scene, enhancing the playfulness of the smash and encouraging your little one to dig in. And, of course, I always recommend having a bottle of water on hand to keep your child hydrated and happy during the shoot.

Cake smash sessions are about capturing joy, playfulness, and the excitement of this big milestone. It’s such a fun and relaxed experience, and I can’t wait to help you create memories that you and your child will cherish forever.

For your cake smash session, parents are kindly asked to bring the cake. This gives you the freedom to choose the perfect one – whether it’s a fun design, your little one’s favourite flavour or colour, or to accommodate any dietary needs.

There are some amazingly talented local suppliers who create beautiful cakes just perfect for smashing or if you’d prefer to bake your own, that’s great too!
