A first birthday is such a special milestone, and what better way to celebrate than with a cake smash session in the comfort of your own home! As a photographer, I love bringing the studio experience to you, so there’s no need to worry about travel or logistics. I come fully equipped with my soft lighting, a roll-up floor (so we don’t make a mess of your space!), and any props we’ll be using, all ready to create the perfect atmosphere for your little one’s big day.
We’ll start the session with a few warm-up photos to help your child feel comfortable and settle into the experience. This is the perfect time to capture your little one in their birthday outfit, whether it’s a cute romper, dress, or a personalised onesie. These portraits are lovely keepsakes before the real fun begins.
Next, it’s time to let loose! The cake smash is all about free play, eating, smashing, and a whole lot of fun. I typically shoot the smash for about 15 minutes, giving enough time for your little one to explore, enjoy, and really dive into the cake, without wearing them out or risking them getting too overwhelmed. I always encourage parents to get involved in the fun, too! Helping your little one smash the cake can make the process smoother, keep them entertained, and ensure they’re engaged in the experience.
Cake Smash – a whole lot of fun!
When it comes to the cake smash itself, the messier, the better! I love capturing all the sweet chaos, cake in hands, splattered on the floor, and even mushed between tiny toes. The more playful and messy, the more fun the photos will be! A spoon can be a great addition to the scene, enhancing the playfulness of the smash and encouraging your little one to dig in. And, of course, I always recommend having a bottle of water on hand to keep your child hydrated and happy during the shoot.
Cake smash sessions are about capturing joy, playfulness, and the excitement of this big milestone. It’s such a fun and relaxed experience, and I can’t wait to help you create memories that you and your child will cherish forever.
For your cake smash session, parents are kindly asked to bring the cake. This gives you the freedom to choose the perfect one – whether it’s a fun design, your little one’s favourite flavour or colour, or to accommodate any dietary needs.
There are some amazingly talented local suppliers who create beautiful cakes just perfect for smashing or if you’d prefer to bake your own, that’s great too!
