When Is the Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photoshoot in Wokingham?

One of the most common questions I’m asked by expecting parents is:

“When should we book our newborn photos?”

Welcoming a new baby is such a special and busy time, filled with hospital visits and a million things to organise. It’s easy for newborn photography to feel like something to think about later. Booking your session at the right time truly makes all the difference, helping you relax and ensuring we capture those precious early moments you’ll treasure forever.

Here’s a simple guide to help you plan.

When Are Newborn Photos Usually Taken?

The ideal time to photograph your newborn is between 5–16 days old.

During this window, babies are typically sleepier and naturally curl into those classic newborn poses. It’s also when we can gently capture all the tiny details, soft fingers, wrinkled toes and sleepy cuddles. These precious moments change so quickly in the first few weeks.

After this stage, babies become more alert and start stretching out. Sessions can still be absolutely beautiful, but the style naturally shifts towards more awake moments and lifestyle images.

Why Booking Early Makes All the Difference

I recommend getting in touch anytime from your 20-week scan.

At this stage, we pencil your due date into my diary and keep everything flexible. Once your baby arrives, you simply let me know, and we schedule your session for the perfect time.

Booking early means:

  • Your session is reserved in advance
  • There’s no last-minute stress after birth
  • You’re guaranteed availability during that newborn window
  • You can relax knowing everything is already organised

As a newborn photographer serving Wokingham and surrounding areas, I only take a limited number of sessions each month. This allows flexibility for early or late arrivals, which is why booking during pregnancy is always best.

When Should You Book Your Newborn Photographer?

Ideally, I recommend booking anytime from your 20-week scan, so I can reserve space in my diary while staying flexible around your baby’s arrival.

This gives you peace of mind throughout the rest of your pregnancy, knowing your newborn session is already planned and waiting for you.

What If My Baby Has Already Arrived?

If your little one is already here or you’re enquiring last minute, please don’t worry, send me a message. Whenever possible, I’ll do my very best to accommodate you.

Even if your baby is older than the typical newborn window, beautiful images can still be created. These sessions often focus more on natural family moments, eye contact and cuddles, a slightly different (but equally lovely) style.

Why In-Home Newborn Photography Makes Things Easier

All of my newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, making the experience calm and convenient for new parents.

There’s no travelling with a newborn, no rushing out the door, and plenty of time for feeds, cuddles and breaks.

As a Family and Newborn Photographer based near Camberley, I travel to families across Wokingham, Berkshire and nearby areas, bringing soft lighting and everything needed for your session allowing you to simply relax and enjoy those first days together.

My Advice for Expecting Parents

If you’re thinking about newborn photos, my biggest tip is simple:

Book early — then forget about it.

Once your session is reserved, all you need to do is enjoy your pregnancy and focus on welcoming your baby. I’ll guide you through everything when the time comes.

Those first days pass in a blur, and having them captured means you’ll always have something beautiful to look back on.
